Purpose of the Role

To study, absorb, and support the integration of Metacrisis frameworks into Umoja’s internal culture, orientations, and long-term strategies—by becoming fluent in the framing, tracking global risk dynamics, and helping translate this complexity into meaningful action for our communities.

This role is also the first step on a path toward becoming a Metacrisis Coach for Umoja Greenlands.

🧠 Context: What Is the Metacrisis?

The Metacrisis refers to the interwoven ecological, technological, social, economic, and existential breakdowns shaping our time—and the failure of current systems to respond coherently.

Umoja’s full framing is outlined here:

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in deep and structured study of the Metacrisis: reading key thinkers (e.g. Schmachtenberger, Ord, Harari, Roubini, Machado), watching lectures, and participating in dialogues

  • Attend and contribute to Metacrisis literacy sessions with the Coach or invited mentors

  • Help document and translate what’s being learned into glossaries, visual maps, articles, or learning tools

  • Assist in making the framing accessible and culturally grounded for the Umoja team and African context

  • Stay informed on emerging risks (e.g., climate tipping points, AI acceleration, social collapse) and help link them to our practical work

  • Collaborate across other circles when systemic insight is needed

  • Not a symbolic role—this is a serious learning journey
