Purpose of the Role
To study, absorb, and support the integration of Metacrisis frameworks into Umoja’s internal culture, orientations, and long-term strategies—by becoming fluent in the framing, tracking global risk dynamics, and helping translate this complexity into meaningful action for our communities.
This role is also the first step on a path toward becoming a Metacrisis Coach for Umoja Greenlands.

The Metacrisis refers to the interwoven ecological, technological, social, economic, and existential breakdowns shaping our time—and the failure of current systems to respond coherently.

Key Responsibilities
Engage in deep and structured study of the Metacrisis: reading key thinkers (e.g. Schmachtenberger, Ord, Harari, Roubini, Machado), watching lectures, and participating in dialogues
Attend and contribute to Metacrisis literacy sessions with the Coach or invited mentors
Help document and translate what’s being learned into glossaries, visual maps, articles, or learning tools
Assist in making the framing accessible and culturally grounded for the Umoja team and African context
Stay informed on emerging risks (e.g., climate tipping points, AI acceleration, social collapse) and help link them to our practical work
Collaborate across other circles when systemic insight is needed
Who This Role Is For
You don’t need to be an expert. You do need to be:
Passionate about understanding collapse and long-term resilience
Curious, consistent, and open to complex systems thinking
Willing to sit with discomfort and hold uncertainty with care
Committed to Umoja’s values of humility, ethics, and interdependence
Excited to eventually mentor others in this work
Time Commitment
Estimated 12–20 hours per month (approx. 3–5 hrs/week)
More during study intensives, events, or external risk flare-ups
Requires emotional presence and intellectual focus
Not a symbolic role—this is a serious learning journey
