Maurice P.O. Obuya is a visionary African leader in regenerative agriculture, ecosystem restoration, and food sovereignty. With over 20 years of interdisciplinary experience, Maurice brings together deep expertise in public health, project management, permaculture design, agroecology, data systems, and indigenous knowledge to regenerate landscapes and empower communities across East Africa.

He currently serves as the President of the African Indigenous Ecosystems Restoration Project, Founder and CEO of Kajulu Hills Eco-Villages, Principal of the Kisumu City Permaculture Academy, and Coordinator of Jefferson’s Permaculture Ecospheres and the Regenerative Agriculture for Community Empowerment Project in Kendubay.

Maurice’s work centers on healing degraded lands, promoting seed sovereignty, restoring indigenous biodiversity, and mentoring the next generation of African permaculture practitioners. His projects have reached more than 10,000 households, restored over 100 acres of ecosystems, and trained over 500 youth and farmers in sustainable farming systems. He also provides strategic support to permaculture initiatives in Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria, Central America, Australia, and the UK.


🌍 Core Experience

Maurice has worked for over a decade in the Ministry of Health Kenya as a District Public Health Officer and AIDS/STI Control Coordinator, followed by another decade as a Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Consultant with USAID/PEPFAR-supported FHI360 projects, where he designed and led evaluation systems for national health programs.

In 2018, he transitioned full-time into ecosystem restoration and regenerative development, building food forests, seed banks, youth education hubs, and biodiversity corridors across Kenya’s Kilifi, Lamu, Kisumu, and Homa Bay regions. He is a UNEP/FAO Certified Eco-Friendly Business Plan Developer and has received recognition and awards from several global institutions for his innovation and impact.
