At Umoja Greenlands, we are dedicated to protecting and nurturing all sentient beings. Our rescue operations are part of a larger mission to honor all creatures of Creation, offering them care, safety, and freedom from exploitation.
Through partnerships and community initiatives, we are building a future rooted in compassion, coexistence, and plant-based living.
Partnership with The Stanley Gama Sanctuary
We are proud to partner with the Stanley Gama Sanctuary, a beacon of resilience and compassion.
The Story of the Stanley Gama Sanctuary:
The Stanley Gama Sanctuary was founded in 2022 during the devastating drought that struck the Amboseli ecosystem. The drought wiped out countless animals and plunged many pastoralist families into poverty after losing their livestock.
During this difficult time, many families struggled to keep their surviving animals alive, resorting to selling healthier animals just to afford feed for others. The emotional and economic toll was enormous, and some families were unable to recover.
Out of this hardship, a new path was chosen: instead of using animals for food or products, the founders decided to love, care for, and protect them. They committed to never eating animals or using any of their products again.
Thus, the Stanley Gama Sanctuary was born.
Today, the sanctuary is home to a growing family:
One dog and one cat rescued from abandonment
Fifteen goats, nine ewes, and three rams rescued from slaughter
Sixty-six goats and sheep combined
Thirty-four cows
The sanctuary allows the animals to live naturally, without human interference in their reproduction. Animals are free to mate and raise their young just as they would in the wild.
The Stanley Gama Sanctuary stands as a living testimony to resilience, compassion, and deep love for all life.
Challenges and Vision:
While great progress has been made, the sanctuary faces daily challenges: providing food, clean water, shelter, veterinary care, and facility improvements.
Our dream is to expand, build better shelters, install reliable water systems, secure more grazing land, and strengthen rescue operations.
We invite compassionate individuals, organizations, and partners to join us in building a sanctuary where animals live free from fear, exploitation, and suffering.

The sanctuary is led by Levis Solitei, a courageous Maasai leader and plant-based transition advisor at Umoja Greenlands. Levis founded the Stanley Gama Sanctuary to offer mistreated and abandoned animals dignity, safety, and care, embodying compassion and deep connection to the Earth.
Ronie Ochieng’s Rescue Efforts – Ronnie Refuge Camp for Animals
Ronie Ochieng, from the Shauri Yako community in Homa Bay, has embarked on a beautiful journey of transformation and compassion.
Ronie once kept chickens confined in tight coops. However, after being inspired by conversations with Sorin, one of Umoja Greenlands’ founders, he made the courageous decision to free the chickens and embrace a new way of living rooted in kindness.
He created the Ronnie Refuge Camp for Animals, where animals are no longer exploited but are protected, loved, and respected.
Today, at Ronnie Refuge Camp, he cares for:
Sixteen chickens rescued and now free to live naturally,
Three puppies, rescued and lovingly nurtured.
Ronie’s rescue work stands as a powerful example of change, love, and dedication — even with limited resources. His commitment to protecting animals reflects the true spirit of Umoja Greenlands and the future we are building together.
Inspired by our Plant-Based Orientation, Ronie continues to expand his care and advocacy for all sentient beings.

Umoja Greenlands Home Base Rescue
At our Umoja Greenlands Home Base Rescue, we continue our mission to protect and nurture vulnerable animals.
In Homa Bay, Geoffrey Ochieng has saved:
One puppy, lovingly named Umoja,
Six chickens, each cared for with dedication and compassion.
Additionally, a kitten was rescued and named Mr. Umoja Gray.
Mr. Umoja Gray has since become a constant companion to the founders, Sorin and Josephine, embodying the spirit of love and hope that defines Umoja Greenlands.
Despite limited resources, Geoffrey and the Umoja Greenlands team work tirelessly to provide these rescued beings with the care, shelter, and affection they deserve.
